Literacy Coaching and Advanced Math
A Literacy Coach from the Cooke Center for Learning and Development works with teachers to develop best practices for teaching English Language Arts. This resource helps identify students’ instructional needs, documents progress and introduces research-based teaching practices that improve student achievement. Reading and literacy is promoted through school-wide initiatives such as the “Word of the Day” that make language arts fun and instill the importance of literacy in ICS’ school culture.
ICS offers accelerated math classes to gifted 7th and 8th grade students. These ambitious and capable students are allowed to take the Regents exam one year ahead of schedule and enter high school in advanced tracks.
