Network Field Day an Instant Favorite

Students warm up before the games

September 17, 2015

The competitive spirit of ICS students was on full display at the Partnership field day! The first annual event was held on Friday, May 29th at Randall’s Island. Our 5th, 6th and 7th graders gave their all as they competed with peers from the other five Partnership schools.

Students could hardly contain their excitement from the moment they boarded the buses. When they arrived at the field, they literally hit the ground running and did relay races, sponge battles and capture the flag. By the time lunch rolled around, students were happy to take a break and sit for a relaxing picnic. Not ready to leave, the 6th graders even had a water fight!

Field Day gave students the unique opportunity to have fun with their classmates while meeting new friends from other schools. Thanks to the preparation by Kids in the Game, our after-school athletic instructors, the Partnership, and our school staff, the day was a hit.

What was the favorite part? “The sack race!” said Ryan G., grade 5. Toniya A., for her part, enjoyed the water race with her friends. ICS students cannot wait for the fun to continue next year, and look forward to more opportunities to bond with other Partnership schools!
