New Looks, New Beginnings

December 8, 2014

Immaculate Conception has a new look to go with the new school year! Thanks to the generosity of the Partnership for Inner-City Education, students entered into a brand new hallway on the first day of school, before continuing on to their refurbished classrooms. The first floor hallway was repainted to a light gray, and our cafeteria received a fresh coat of yellow paint, creating a more welcoming atmosphere for families and students. All of the classrooms received large white boards to replace worn out chalk boards that have been in the school for decades. New bulletin boards are mounted outside of the classrooms to display student work outside. These renovations were a great start to the new year! “It feels so warm and friendly when you walk in,” said one parent. Sr. Anna Theresa, a 2nd grade teacher, is thrilled with her new classroom. “It’s nice to have such a big space outside to display their work,” she said. “The students are even more proud of their accomplishments.”

Our biggest renovation, however, was the addition of a new Pre-K classroom, allowing ICS to double its seats in Pre-K 4. The Pre-K room was converted from one of our first grade classrooms, after that class moved up to the second floor. To accommodate the young members of the ICS family, contractors built a brand new bathroom and sink. Both of our Pre-K classrooms also received new tables and chairs and additional learning resources, such as a sand and water table, to help our students prepare for Kindergarten and beyond.

Our new Pre-K teacher, Ms. Cruz, loves the new facilities! “The automatic lights in the bathroom are incredible,” she said, “and the students love their centers.” We look forward to watching our littlest students flourish in their new spaces!
